PornHub Gets Unbanned in Russia

BURBANK, Calif. — MindGeek’s PornHub once again was made available in Russia, according to reports.

The Roskomnadzor, which is Russia’s communications regulator, blocked the adult tube site property in September after it issued a ruling that said the site could be harmful to users.

Roskomnadzor spokesman Vadim Ampelonsky stated in media reports that access to the site was opened on April 7 "by court order," and that the PornHub case was sent for a new review.

For now, only the .com version of the site is available; the page under the .ru domain is still locked, according to the reports.

The Roskomnadzor placed PornHub into the register of banned sites by the decision of the Buturlinovsky District Court of the Voronezh region.

Brazzers and YouPorn are also in the register of banned porn sites. So is Brazzers, which reportedly was blocked in October by the Bolsheglushitsky District Court of the Samara region.

MindGeek spokeswoman Catherine Dunn told XBIZ that company is pleased in learning about Russia’s potential lift of its ban on PornHub to deliver adult content to avid fans across the country once again."

"With all the controversy going on currently, it is comforting to know our users will have a place to turn and escape for a bit," Dunn said. "It is a step in the right direction and we hope other countries that have banned adult entertainment sites like PornHub will follow suit.”
